Where You’ll Stay – Lower Buckton Self-Catering

Lower Buckton Country House – sleeps twelve guests with five double bedrooms all on the first floor plus one bunk-bed room on the ground floor. Dog friendly. People friendly. Horse friendly.

Get the whole house.  Downstairs are the drawing room, dining room, kitchen, bunkbed room, hallways, boot-room and back kitchen shower/cloakroom.

Full central-heating, wood burner, open fire including logs. Large, well-equipped farmhouse kitchen with AGA, two fridges, freezer and two dishwashers. Back kitchen with shower, loo, washing machine and tumble drier and the third fridge. The gardens have a terrace with huge table & chairs,  seating areas, furniture, croquet, swings, gas Weber BBQ.

Inside

From the front door the entrance hall leads to the drawing room with woodburning stove, the dining room with open fireplace, bookshelves full of books and local information, the bunk-bed room, the fully equipped kitchen with four oven AGA, the inner cloak room hall, the downstairs loo and shower/laundry room.
A straight staircase ascends to the first floor with five double bedrooms, two with en suites and three share the family bathroom.
The drawing room, stairs, landing and bedrooms are carpeted. The dining room has a parquet floor covered with a large Chinese rug and oriental rugs. There is oil central heating and free Wifi.

Entrance Hall and Staircase

Just inside the front door is a personalised, framed 1:50,000 Ordnance Survey map showing Lower Buckton as centre stage from where walks and days out can be plotted, planned and routed. On the walls throughout the house are old pictures, maps and prints of local scenes as well as many family portraits.

The Drawing Room

With windows to the south and east this room is furnished with a mixture of antique and contemporary sofas and chairs, antique tables, oriental rugs and family portraits. There are well placed lamps for reading and collections of books, maps, games and local information. The flat-screen TV/DVD is placed on the wall and has Freeview which is sometimes a little intermittent.

The Dining Room

The handmade, oak, twelve foot long dining table plays host to many a memorable meal. There is plenty of dining chairs for a houseful of guests. Fine, white English bone china, quality cutlery, silver plated candlesticks and shiny glasses make a fine table setting. The room is painted in green and decorated with antique sporting engravings and a collection of china on the Welsh dresser.

The Bunk-bed room

Small and cosy book-lined room with full-size bunk-beds for either adults or children.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is equipped by a cook for cooks. Guests will find lots of gadgets and utensils with which to prepare and cook all of the local, seasonal food food available. The square kitchen with its window and garden door has a central preparation table, a four oven oil-fired AGA cooker and a Rangemaster stove with gas hob, two electric ovens and electric grill surrounded by solid beech worktops and a double Belfast sink. There are two under-counter fridges, an under-counter freezer, two washing-up machines and a combi/oven/grill/microwave. Lots of pots and pans, masses of utensils for every job. The cupboards are full of matching bone china, good quality pots, pans, crocks, cutlery utensils and gadgets. We hope we’ve thought of useful added extras.

A homemade cake awaits you and there’s a supply of ground coffee, Yorkshire tea and sugar plus condiments and larder cupboard for your own food. Please try not to bring too much super-market food – you’ll find everything you need in the area’s superb local independent shops and markets. We like to be a multi-national, supermarket-free zone.

The oak stable door leads to the south-west facing flagged terrace with large garden table, metal chairs, bbq and croquet on the lawn.

The Scullery, downstairs WC, shower and inner hall

The hallway between the kitchen and servants’ door to main hall has a flagstoned floor, large bookcase full of inspirational cookery books and door opening to the inner hall into the laundry room with automatic washing machine, separate tumbler drier, a third fridge, stainless steel sink, built-in shower cubicle and separate loo.

The Bedrooms……five on the first floor and one on the ground floor.

Five double rooms….. all beds are made up with feather-down quilts and pillows covered with pure Egyptian cotton sheets, covers and slips. The bathrooms have fluffy white towels and bathrobes.

The Blue Room – five foot wide double bed plus a double sofa-bed with bathroom en suite. This room has two windows which overlook the garden to the south with the horses’ paddocks beyond and the Wigmore Rolls in the distance. The bathroom has a massive, vintage cast-iron-enamel bath, hand basin, low-level loo, radiator and mirror with shaver point. The window looks out over the old farmyard and beyond.

The Yellow Room – five foot wide double bed plus a small double sofa-bed with shower-room en suite. This room has one window which overlooks the garden to the east and views towards Mocktree. The shower-room has an English oak floor, curved glass shower cubicle, hand basin, low-level loo, mirror with shaver point and a heated towel rail.

The Pink Room – six foot wide double or twin beds with a hand-basin in the corner. This room has one window which overlooks the garden to the east with views towards Leintwardine and Mocktree Hill.

The Green Room – six foot wide double or twin beds with a hand-basin in the corner. This room has one window which overlooks the old farmyard barns and has views to the west.

The Lilac Room – twin beds with one window overlooking the old farmyard barns and views to the north-west.

The Bunk-bed Room – on the ground floor with full-size bunk-beds for either adults or children – use the ground floor shower/WC

The Family Bathroom

Massive, vintage cast-iron-enamel bath, hand basin, low-level loo, radiator and electrically illuminated mirror light with shaver point. The window looks out over the garden with views to the south.

Outside

From the lane, guests arrive into the old, farm courtyard which is surrounded by mellow brick and stone barns and buildings. There is plenty parking, a barn for locking away bicycles and stables for horses.

The Lawned Gardens

Just outside the front door is the secluded east lawn which gets the morning sun. There’s an old oak bench, the perfect place for the early-morning sunshine. The wooden gate leads to the south lawn with a paved terrace and huge garden table with old bench from Scarborough railway station (with pots of parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme).  There’s a gas-fired Weber BBQ on the decking area. Open a bottle or two and enjoy the fresh air then light some candles for the nights’ scents on balmy evenings.

The stone steps lead down to the bottom lawn with the millstream running through.  Paddle, dabble and play Pooh Sticks.
